Vacation excitement and anxiety!

Well we are getting ready for our first ever family vacation out of the state of Michigan!!! (Our trips up North to the cabin don't count). I am very excited but already getting nervous about packing, and what it will do to Izzy's schedule.

Here is our plan. I am flying to Vegas a week from tomorrow for a conference for work that runs Thursday and Friday. Let me start by saying i am BEYOND excited for these 3.5 days!! I have an early flight Wednesday morning so i get to vegas early in the day and have the entire day/night free to do WHATEVER I want!!!!!!! I am hoping for great weather for walking the strip. I work for my dad so my parents will be there as well so I will be hanging out with them some (and milking my mom for all the free stuff/food/shopping i can---yes I am shameful like that) Thursday and Friday are jam packed for the conference but I am still excited about that, should be good. Then Friday night I am going to see Phantom (5th row!) with my mom. DH and Izzy fly in Saturday afternoon (yes DH is flying 4 hrs by himself with our 2yr old....G-d Help him) We are spending Saturday night in Vegas and then Sunday we will begin our road trip to Scottsdale with stops at Grand Canyon and Sedona on the way.

This is where I start to get anxious a little. It is a 4hr drive to Grand Canyon and then anothe r2 hrs to Sedona. We are staying 2 nights in Sedona and then moving on to Scottsdale where we will spend Tues-sat, when we are going home. The purpose of our trip to Scottsdale is kind of a family renioun( my family is complicated and I will spare you the full explination in this post, it is long enough). My grandparents, 2 sets of aunts and uncles along with my "dad"Stuart and his wife wendy. My "dad" lives in Austraila, he was my mom's first husband, they got divorced when i was 5 and he gave up his parental rights when I was 14....so needless to say there is some history there. We have made a lot of progress over the years and have decent relationship....it is not a father/daughter relationship but one of mutual respect I think and we are getting to know one another as adults and the people we are today versus the people we were 15 years ago....I love his wife Wendy she is a total sweetheart. So it will be very interesting to see how we do with that much time together even though we will not be togethe4 24/7. Most of the family is staying with my aunt /uncle in their house or the condo wthey own, while we are staying in a hotel (more like a low budget inn/suites , Stuart offered to pay for our accomadations which we were very grateful for, however the place he booked looks a little shady so we will see how that goes)

Here again is where I get nervous. I wonder how Izzy is going to handle all of this. We are not even bringing the pack n play because we are pretty sure she won't sleep in it (she didn't when we were in NJ) So we have a one room suite (it has a bedroom with 2 full beds) and a seperate living room. So izzy will be sleeping with us....I know her routine is going to get WAY out of wack and I am already afraid it will never go back when we get home.

Not to mention my anxiety for packing. I need to get Izyz mostly packed before I leave, because DH has not really done this before and I think i am a control freak and think only i can do it. Then there is the weather, looks like it will be as low as 30-40's at night, and up to 75 or higher during the day depending on where we are...what a nightmare for packing clothes!! Plus there is the duration, i will be gone for a week and half!! I need "work clothes" fun clothes for going out in Vegas, and vacation clothes...not to mention workout clothes because I will be trying to at least get some workouts in! That is a long time. I guess my aunt and uncle will have laundry at their house so I am sure we can use it which should help. My anxiety level is seriously getting up there about packing. I need to get a really good jump on it this weekend, I need to try on my summer clothes and hope the fit (they should as my size hasn't changed too much) and I need to see what I have for Izzy that fits and maybe pick up a few things if needed although i got some t-shirts and skorts and a pair of capri's for her the other day so she will probably be okay.

Can you tell I am a bit overwhelmed?????

Number One - Your new page format is the BEST!
Two - You can't understand the level of envy I am feeling that you get DAYS alone. In Vegas. ALONE. :)
Three - this is almost the exact same trip we did with Lil last year. We drove from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon, back through Sedona and then to Scottsdale and flew home. It was awesome and really perfect for a little one. The drives are long, but there's lots to stop at and see along the way. Sedona is really stroller friendly, and even a year ago, Lily got a huge kick out of the Grand Canyon. There's so much wild life that it's like visiting a zoo.
I can't wait to hear all about it! Email me if you want to talk more!!

And again...did I mention how jealous I am of your alone vacation? :)

I love your picture up top!

The weather has been nice, but cool. As for packing, I packed way too many tank tops!
Josie's been wearing her t shirts or tank tops with a zip up hoodie and has been fine.

When you're in Scottsdale you have to check out Old Towne. It has some fun shops and great places to eat. If you're into shopping, Fashion Square is huge and really pretty. And if you like exercise, Camelback Mountain is really fun to climb. It isn't too hard, but it is a workout! I don't go cause I'm super lazy, but Andrew is climbing right now! (as I sit in my PJ's drinking coffee!)

Don' worry too much about the travel. It will have hard moments and great ones! And what a bonding experience for your family!
